A Quiz Night in memory of Austie Langan will be hosted in Mooney's Bar, Maugheraboy on the evening of Sunday, 12th November.
Austie's passing in February left a huge hole in the club. He was the club's Treasurer but in reality was so much more, he was the cornerstone of the club. An ever present who gave so generously of his time to the successful running of Merville United. We would encourage as many as possible to attend what is sure to be a wonderful evening. A table of 4 costs €20 and it all kicks off at 7pm. Austie's family have very kindly asked that all proceeds from the evening go towards the club. A gesture for which we are very grateful. Merville United graduate and current Sligo Rovers under 15 player, Kailin Barlow has been selected for the Republic of Ireland squad for the forthcoming double header against Poland in November.
Kailin has represented Merville up to under 14 level before departing the club and stepping up to play for Sligo Rovers in the inaugural SEE Airtricity under 15 League this season. An attacking midfielder, Kailin has won many trophies with Merville under the guidance of John Mc Ateer and Ger Canning, with the SFAI Connacht Cup standing out last season. Everyone at Merville Utd is delighted to hear of Kailin's selection for the under 15 national team. A fantastic achievement for Kailin and a proud day for his parents Robert & Gretta. Well done Kailin, keep up the good work and enjoy the occasion. Congratulations from all at Merville Utd. The club's academy, catering for players aged 7 to 10 years of age has reached capacity. We have registered close to 50 children for our Academy coaching sessions that take place on Friday evening's on the Showgrounds astro turf pitch. The club is delighted to see such a strong numbers registered, which is evidence of the quality of coaching provided by Merville's Academy Coaching Team.
To ensure the Academy is run efficiently and we have a manageable coach to player ratio we are now closing registration for the under 10 age groups. The club will review the numbers attending the Academy after the Christmas period. If spaces become available we will reopen registration for limited numbers. Merville United Youths wish to register a girls team to take part in this year's under 12 Girls Sligo Leitrim Youth League. The club have two experienced and enthusiastic coaches in Tiffany Meades and Rachael Cronin to guide the team. Those who are interested in joining should be born in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
We believe the club should truly represent the local community and as such catering for girls teams is an important element in building a club that reflects our community. Girls who are interested in playing football for Merville this season can register at Merville Community Centre over the coming evenings:
In an effort to encourage girls to join, we are reducing the fees for our U12 girls team to just €75.00. Players registering who have not previously registered with a Sligo Leitrim club must bring with them a copy of their birth certificate on registration. This copy will be kept on record by the league. Rachel and Tiffany's first training session is scheduled for Wednesday, 5th of September between 5pm and 6pm on the astro pitch at the Showgrounds. For further information contact the club via the contact us page.
Due to issues regarding handling money, we are restricting the number of registration nights for the club. You can register and pay online at any time, and we will take card or cheque payments at the registration nights below. Registration for our academy will take place on evenings of September 8th (in Merville Community Centre) and 15th on Sligo Astro Turf.
Any players registering with the club for the first time, and who have not previously played for a sligo Leitrim club need to bring a copy of their birth certificate. This copy will be retained by the league. This does not apply to academy players. |
